New York State home sales in the first half of 2011 fell as expected from the 2010 tax credit-driven market, but showed growth compared to 2009. The statewide median sales price posted gains compared to the first half of 2010. Click here to learn more.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The National Association of REALTORS launched its first-ever consumer Call for Action to six million current or future homeowners asking them to visit HomeOwnerActionCenter.com where they can send a letter to their legislators in opposition of legislation requiring a 20-percent down payment on a purchase of a home. Tax credits and funding of more than $169 million will be available for several "Homes and Community Renewal" programsthrough Gov. Andrew Cuomo's "NY Works" plan. This plan is designed to change the way the state purchases real estate to potentially save hundreds of millions of dollars. Click here to learn more.
 
LEGAL
Earlier this year the Mortgage Assistance Relief Services (MARS) rule, regarding disclosures (and other items) in short sale transactions became effective. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a statement that it would not be enforcing some of the original provisions in the rule against real estate licensees. Click here to learn more.

REALTOR Institute 402 – "Real estate legal issues- Not knowing can be dangerous" will be held August 2 – 3 at the Westchester Putnam Association of REALTORS office in White Plains, NY. This course will give you a clear understanding of agency practice and policy issues, and will teach you how to avoid misrepresentation, antitrust and fair housing violations. REALTOR Institute 409 – "Equal and ethical service for today's consumer"will be held August 24 – 25 at the Greater Rochester Association of REALTORS office in Rochester, NY.
