New York State February 2012 home sales increased by 9.6 percent from February 2011, despite falling back slightly from January, according to preliminary single-family sales data accumulated by the New York State Association of REALTORS. The statewide median sales price increased by more than six percent from January.

In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for February 2012, RealtyTrac Inc. reported New York State had 1,761 total foreclosures, an increase of 5.32 percent from January, but a decrease of 35.85 percent from February 2011. New York State ranked number 46 of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filing in February.

REALTOR University launched its first Master of Real Estate course, Real Estate Law (RE520). NYSAR Real Estate Services, Inc. is funding a REALTOR University scholarship for an accepted NYSAR member who lives and works in New York State.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The Legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo have continued to negotiate a $132 billion state budget with an April 1 deadline. The final budget will include a higher income tax on millionaires, which, according to the governor’s office, will pay for a tax cut of $200 to $400 for most middle-income families.
