Robust buyer activity across New York State in May
resulted in a 12-percent growth in the statewide median sales price from May
2012, according to the housing market report released by the New York State
Association of REALTORS.

Privately-owned housing starts in May were at a
seasonally adjusted rate of 71,000 for the Northeast, down 9 percent from the
April total of 78,000, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce
Department.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The 2013 legislative
session officially came to an end on Saturday, June 22. Due to the active
support and involvement of countless REALTORS from across the state, NYSAR
successfully accomplished several of its legislative priorities this year
including the introduction by both the Senate and Assembly of two NYSAR
supported bills. The first will codify the ability of brokers to offer
rebates and incentives to buyers and sellers and tenants and landlords, while
the second defines "teams" under the Real Property Law and requires brokers to
register team names with the Department of State. NYSAR also successfully
defeated legislation that would have increased the statewide transfer tax by
two percent and was able to prevent any increase to the statewide mortgage
recording tax.
Most importantly, NYSAR was able to prevent the
passage of all legislation that would have negatively impacted REALTORS. To

In
honor of June being NYSAR Housing Opportunities Month and in an effort to raise
awareness for housing opportunities in New York State, the NYSAR Housing
Opportunities Foundation has made a goal of raising $5,000 on its HOF
thermometer. With each degree of donation, the temperature will rise and the
donor’s name will be added alongside the thermometer. The thermometer with
donor recognition will be prominently displayed on NYSARHousingFoundation.com,
in an upcoming issue of New York State REALTOR magazine, on the foundation’s Facebook page and at the NYSAR Fall Business
Meetings.

REALTOR Institute 405 – "Construction and Environmental
Issues" – will be offered July 9 at the Greater Rochester Association of
REALTORS in Rochester, NY. This course provides an in-depth understanding of
the physical structure and systems in a home, in addition to energy efficiency
and energy rating systems.

RPAC
Congratulations to the Columbia-Greene Board on raising
$2,500 for RPAC during their Hawaiian-themed BBQ last week in Hudson! The event
included BBQ fare as well as a coffee station/desserts and a professional
photographer to take headshots. Thank you to the leadership at Columbia-Greene
