The new TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) rules for mortgage closings took effect for new loan applications on Oct. 3. The Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, on behalf of the six federal financial regulatory agencies, provided written assurances that the early enforcement of the new rules will take into account the good faith efforts of supervised entities. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has an online toolkit to help REALTORS prepare for TRID, which can be found here.
 
The 2015 NYSAR Fall Business Meetings kicked off Sunday at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona. During yesterday’s General Session, NYSAR President Mike Smith gave the State of the Association address and attendees heard from Bob Bemis, RPR vice president for business development, who gave a broad-based presentation of the many issues facing REALTOR boards and MLSs today. The 2015 REALTOR of the Year award was also presented to Martin Carpenter of Baldwinsville, NY.

The National Association of REALTORS has created "The Little Red Book: Safety Rules to Live By for REALTORS," which focuses on helping empower you to become more aware and safe as real estate practitioners. It includes tips that are presented in a fun, light-hearted way with realistic advice from fellow REALTORS. It’s a great tool for new agents and seasoned professionals to incorporate into their safety protocols. Learn more here.
 
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that New York State will be providing $11.5 million in funding that will support counseling and legal services that provide free assistance to families who are at risk of foreclosure. Legal service providers that have a proven record of helping homeowners will receive the grants, pending review and approval from the state and are for one year with the possibility of a one-year renewal. Basil Seggos was nominated last week by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to become the next Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner, succeeding Joe Martens. Before his nomination, Seggos served as the governor’s Deputy Secretary for the Environment since 2013. Seggos’ nomination is subject to Senate confirmation. Click here for more background.
 
Last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the launch of the NYC Retrofit Accelerator, which will provide free technical assistance and advisory services for building owners to go green through critical energy efficiency, water conservation, and clean energy upgrades. Click here for more.
