NEWS

Congratulations to Bob on this well deserved award. By reviewing a excerpt from Bob's nomination, you can see why he was selected for this prestigious honor:

Bob works tirelessly for the HR profession and the TSC. He has more than a decade of service to the council and the Williamson County Chapter. He rarely misses a meeting and he is always eager to participate and contribute to our profession. Bob has formed numerous business and government relationships over the years, which have both improved the awareness of HR and the TSC, but often contributed monetarily to our success. Some of the major accomplishments include: getting a proclamation from the State of Texas Governor every October to promote HR Awareness month, establishing a relationship with TAB and the Employment Symposium, collaborating with ESGR to bring awareness to the issue of unemployed veterans, creating a profit share with the Texas Employment Law Handbook, salary survey discounts and revenue shares, Pinnacle Award submissions, soliciting and bringing in sponsors for the TSC meetings and events. This list is not all inclusive, but I hope will show the enthusiasm and dedication that Bob Cartwright has brought to the TSC and the HR profession. I strongly recommend him for the Volunteer Leader of the Year Award.

Greetings from the Texas State Council Marketing team!! We are so excited about great things happening with the marketing of the Texas State Council.

First and foremost, we are changing our brand name and are in the process of obtaining approval for our new logo.  In the near future we will be known as Texas SHRM or The Council.  A sample of the new logo was available for members to view during our October 19th meeting in Ft. Worth and we are looking forward to our public debut in January 2014!!

In the meantime, we have been busy creating a Texas SHRM Store where the members will be able to purchase everything from t-shirts to lanyards, mugs, hats, thumb drives, portfolios, pens/pencils, and everything in between. We have also designed professional shirts for both men and women in either a red, white, or blue color option. These will be made available in the Texas SHRM Store located on the website later on in January 2014.

We are looking forward to 2014 and to serving all of the HR professionals associated with Texas SHRM!!

On September 23rd New Friends New Life hosted their annual Golf Classic at Steven Park Golf Course in Dallas, Texas. NFNL is a non-profit organization that restores and empowers formerly trafficked girls and sexually exploited women and their children. They provide access to education, job training, interim financial assistance, mental health and spiritual support to women and children overcoming backgrounds of abuse, addiction, poverty, and limited opportunities.

Dallas HR’s Committee Relations Committee partnered with New Friends New Life for 2013 to assist in many of the fundraising events with the largest being the Annual Golf Tournament. More than 50 volunteers came together to support this event in the community. In particular, the members of Dallas HR were able to assist in of selling sponsorships, recruiting players, designing the logistics of the
event, and actually working the event. The efforts of all involved raised more than $33,000 for NFNL. The objective for 2013 for Dallas HR was to be" insanely great" in everything they do and their objective was definitely met in this event!

South Texas SHRM hosted our 2nd Annual HR Seminar — "Is Your Human Resources Department in CHECK"? — on Thursday, September 12th in the UHV Multipurpose Room from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. HR professionals around the region from Port Lavaca, Victoria, Gonzales, Shiner, Cuero, & Yoakum joined us to network, meet and hear from local sponsors, and listen to great speakers to ensure that their HR departments are "in check." Topics included "in check" hiring practices, background screens, diversity initiatives, and Affordable Health Care Act updates. We also provided our attendees the opportunity to obtain 4 HRCI credits for their PHR/SPHR during this conference.
