CHAPTER CHATTER
On February 27, 2014, AHRMA hosted its annual Law Day. This year's event had more than a dozen Austin-area employment attorneys providing informative presentations on current significant legal issues for HR professionals.

Topics covered by the presenters included employee misclassification, ADA accommodations, background checks, employee handbooks, social media and the Affordable Care Act. Participants also were provided the opportunity to participate in a "Litigation Track" discussing issues related to investigations, depositions and settlement negotiations.

The Law Day Lunch Panel was a crowd pleaser. The panel was comprised of representatives from the EEOC, NLRB and Texas Workforce Commission discussing respective agency initiatives.

The Military Women in Transition (Sun 2/16) was the first event of its kind. Our volunteers looked to help female veterans and spouses of soldiers boost their job search and/or enhance their existing career. The event featured inspiring speakers and provided individualized workshops, professional clothing giveaway with wardrobing and make up tips and the opportunity to meet with hiring employers.

Great attendance, 300 volunteers and exhibits, news coverage! KUDOS!!
