The Builders Association's Corporate Citizenship Award honors one member company for its philanthropic contributions and strong commitment to public service. As the demand for construction continues to rise, so does the need for an educated, talented, and qualified labor force.This labor shortage is not going to correct itself. As a response, contractors across the nation are declaring the first week in October of each year as "Construction Week." The Women Build Nations conference is returning to Chicago October 13-15, co-sponsored by Chicago Women in Trades and North America's Building Trades Unions. September 23 is right around the corner, which means that OSHA will begin enforcing the Silica Standard. AGC Houston created a document to offer guidance to members on achieving compliance with the Standard nationwide. You can find another great Silica Standard resource here.

Many new hires do not work out in the first 18 months due to poor attitude. Research shows that even professional interviewers can sometimes fail to detect attitude issues. People today are immersed in interview tips and tricks through social media, which may enable some candidates to learn how to hide a negative attitude in order to get hired. By following these tips, your company may improve its chances of spotting this type of candidate before they become an unsatisfactory hire.
