The CPA holds a number of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) equivalency certificates on behalf of members. These allow activities related to transporting dangerous goods to be carried out in a way that do not comply with the TDG Regulations, if they provide an equivalent level of safety.
This week, the CPA is attending a number of meetings to discuss the transportation of dangerous goods.
A recent amendment to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations introduced ambulatory references to allow stakeholders to use the most recent versions of certain international codes and safety standards for a means of containment. Whenever a new edition of dynamically-referenced standards is published, stakeholders will have six months from the day the revised standards are published to comply.
On October 27, the CPA met with Transport Canada on this issue at which time they re-confirmed their openness to providing a transition period to companies who would experience undue hardship if immediate compliance was imposed. Transport Canada will be granting temporary certificates on a case by case basis; therefore, each company in need of a transition period should submit an application to Transport Canada. Information related to applications for temporary certificates can be found here.
