The CPA is hiring! The CPA is now accepting applicants for a Director, Propane Recycling Canada and encourages you to circulate it to anyone you know who may be interested in applying.
The CPA is notifying members that Metal Mate, a manufacturer in Thailand, has been producing and selling propane cylinders marked with the DOT 4E or DOT 4BA 240 without receiving approval from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to manufacture cylinders that meet the DOT standard. Cylinders marked with the name “Metal Mate” are not DOT approved.
Fuel tax charges are levied against distributors regarding unaccountable product losses. While it may be expected in industries where product loss could be equated to theft or spills, this would be next to impossible with a gaseous product like propane that has unique properties and regulatory requirements.

Technical Safety BC has announced a new nationally recognized pressure welder certificate of qualification program. This program will ensure that all pressure welders working in the province meet the minimum capabilities of the trade as required by the applicable codes.
On January 22, 2020, Transport Canada hosted a webinar to present the finalized approach for the Client Identification Database, which was meant to address issues and identify unaddressed concerns. The CPA attended the webinar to obtain further information on the new Client Identification Database requirements and what they would entail for plan participants.
The CPA received notification that some highway tank facilities are experiencing delays in the Transport Canada approval process (see NEW! Federal – Compliance issues with highway tank facilities published December 19, 2019, for details on TC’s inspection findings at highway tank facilities). When the CPA contacted TC requesting further information, TC stated that these facilities were experiencing difficulty demonstrating their compliance with the requirements as laid out in CSA B620 highway tanks and TC portable tanks for the transportation of dangerous goods and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (SOR /2001-286).
The CPA received renewal certificates in December 2019 (see Important reminder – Remain compliant! Change TDG equivalencies in your vehicles for the current versions published January 16, 2020). To support members in compliance with the certificates, the CPA will be featuring useful information on the certificates in upcoming publications.

The Canadian Propane Association and the National Propane Gas Association are supporting the International Association of Young Gassers in its launch of a 30 Under 30 Program for 2020. This program is aimed at recognizing top young professionals in the propane industry – from drivers, technicians, office workers, to manufacturing shop employees and association employees.
The CSA Group has launched an online platform that allows registered users free access to Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) safety standards published by CSA Group referenced in federal TDG regulations. Users can now log into Communities of Interest and register to find the TDG View Access site here.
