September 22, 2015: Refining and Revising an Improvement Plan

In this webinar, learn how an extremely remote school in rural Nevada with a large migrant, English-learner, and socioeconomically disadvantaged population is continuously monitoring and adjusting elements of their School Improvement Grant (SIG) plan based on the realities of implementation. As they enter the third year of their grant, the school's Principal, Robert Williams, and the district's School Intervention Director, Evangelyn Visser, will share how they have handled aspects of the plan that required modification, along with how they have built upon successful plan components.

While some of Amargosa Valley School's issues are uniquely rural, many are universal to any school and district starting a turnaround process. In addition to school and district staff presenters, district superintendent Dale Norton and staff from the Nevada Department of Education will reflect on Amargosa's journey. The insights this school and district team will share about continuously assessing and adjusting their strategies, while communicating with key stakeholders, will be of interest to school, district or state leaders working on school turnaround.
