In recent conversations, I realized that there are potentially many things about the chapter that are not known by the members. What better way to give a quick recap of things you may not know than in our newsletter!
Did you know...
- There are 71 MPI
chapters and clubs with a cumulative 20,000 members worldwide.
- The Kansas City
Chapter was founded in 1981.
- Our chapter
currently has 170 members. Fifty-five of
those members are CMPs; six are CMMs.
- We offer affiliate
memberships to people who are members of other chapters that want to be
more involved with KCMPI.
- It pays to "refer
a friend" to join. You receive $50
off your next renewal for each person who joins listing your member ID as
a reference on their application.
- We changed the
title "volunteer" to "active member" last year. KCMPI currently has 67 active members.
- Of the annual dues
paid to MPI, only 18 percent comes back to the chapter. For this reason, we rely heavily on sponsorships.
- We received more than
$223,000 in cash and in-kind sponsorships in the 2012-2013 fiscal year,
with an additional $19,000 raised through fundraising efforts. Even with that amount of income, our
chapter still overexpended by $2,000.
- Cheryle Grinter has
been the chapter administrator for nine years. Many times, she is the first point of
contact for potential and current members.
She maintains stability through the transition of the board each
year.
- There are 12
positions on the current board, but two of the positions are open.
- Our board meets
each month for board meetings. Any
member is allowed to sit in on the board meetings, although they are not
able to vote. All of the board
meeting minutes are posted to kcmpi.org and are accessible for all
members.
- Each month, we
offer at least one opportunity to connect with other chapter members. There are a mandatory minimum of six
education offerings each year. We
host between four and eight additional events that are social in nature.
- We offer several
scholarships throughout the year.
If you want to apply, you can do so through kcmpi.org.
If you are curious about any of the above
items, want to find out about anything else that has been weighing on your
mind, or if you want to do your part in changing any of the above numbers, please
let us know!
