Editor's Note
How do you keep calm and carry on in the craziest of
times?
I recently found myself in the
perfect storm of work, home and volunteer positions that had me in a situation
where balls had to be dropped. As much
as I’d like to be great at everything, sometimes you just can’t do it all. Wi-Fi goes down, planes get delayed and people
make mistakes that are out of our control.
And while it may mess up our current plans, in the long run it will all
work out.
Fortunately, I had two great articles with advice from guest authors for this newsletter in my inbox and an unplanned layover in Omaha to read them! You can find these articles under Career Development. Lee Siber and Rory Vaden both share some great suggestions on forging ahead in those craziest
of times.
This month in KCMPI, take a moment to reach out to a new
member, thank a sponsor, sign up for an upcoming event or simply congratulate
someone on an accomplishment. Of all the
things we do in our busy schedules, these are the simplest, with some of the longest lasting impacts.
Now, back to catch all those balls we have in the air!

Event Recaps
Industry expert Deborah Gardner highlighted an awesome array of speakers and topics at this year’s PEC. Deborah’s sessions on "Talking ‘Bout Our Generations" and "Mapping Your Success to Win!" were a hit with everyone in attendance. In addition to Deborah’s session, topics such as "Human Trafficking in the Industry," "Wi-Fi in the Industry," "Maximizing ROI," and a LinkedIn session and a Kansas City industry update rounded out a packed schedule.

News & Notes
The Conferences and Noncredit Programs team at Kansas State University Global Campus has welcomed a new program coordinator, Brandi Nelson. Originally from Salina, Kansas, Nelson will primarily focus on conferences and programs for the College of Architecture, Planning and Design and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a secondary major in natural resources and environmental sciences from K-State, and a master’s in resource policy and behavior with a specialty in environmental justice from the University of Michigan.
Before accepting the conference coordinator position at K-State Global Campus, Nelson worked as an evaluations program coordinator in the Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation at K-State. She also spent two years working for K-State Research and Extension in the communications and agricultural education department as coordinator of the Kansas Environmental Leadership Program.
Nelson said her love for event planning and knowledge of academic services is what drew her to the coordinator position at K-State Global Campus.
"I’m excited to be able to further develop my event planning skills and learn more about the industry," Nelson said. "I’m looking forward to learning from other members of the team, and hopefully bringing on some new programs and conferences."
