From Morgan, Brown & Joy's blog: Employers preparing to comply with new overtime rules received an unexpected reprieve from new federal regulations that were scheduled to take effect on Dec. 1, 2016. In a decision issued [last] Tuesday afternoon (11/22/2016), the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Texas issued a nationwide, emergency injunction preventing the U.S. Department of Labor from implementing the overtime rules anywhere in the United States. The new regulations were scheduled to become effective in a few days and would have increased the minimum annual salary from $23,660 to $47,476 required for employees to meet the white collar exemptions to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) overtime and minimum wage requirements.

Expressing gratitude makes us feel better. When we give thanks or express gratitude we increase the neurotransmitter dopamine – our brain’s own "feel good" chemical. Dopamine increases our energy and turns on our brain’s learning centers, allowing us to feel more motivated and content. This boost of energy helps us tackle our goals, daily work and makes us more productive, which in turn increases our motivation and supports a feel-good mental state. How can this help with your own engagement?

After months of revisions and uncertainty, the new FLSA Overtime Rules WOULD have gone into effect Dec. 1, 2016. While we were all scrambling to comply, Massachusetts quietly passed a Pay Equity Law, OSHA released new rules, and the EEOC issued new guidance, all of which will go into effect in the New Year. Join Angela Snyder, an employment attorney with the law firm of Foley & Foley, PC, as she addresses these hot topics and more. She will also open the floor for questions about current employment laws and achieving compliance. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A, and handouts with FAQs will be available.

Career Center
Despite
its growing popularity, there are still some misconceptions about temporary
jobs. For instance, one stereotype that we hear is that temporary jobs are
mainly for administrative roles or low-level work. While it’s true that decades
ago temporary staffing began with administrative and light industrial roles,
today temporary jobs are found in a very wide range of industries and
professions. For instance, a company that is going through a public offering
may have a need to take on finance experts for a period of time. The work is
not low-level at all, but is temporary by nature.
Another company may be going
through a hiring burst as a result of a move into a new area and wants to bring
on HR professionals to help them through the transition. The work is temporary
because it ends once the project is complete. The bottom line is that you
should choose a job that suits you and your career needs. Don’t base your
decisions on outdated myths.
