Each year, NPMA works diligently to identify and recruit members to serve on our association’s standing committees. In an effort to foster fresh ideas and allow all NPMA members to share their expertise, we are calling on you to nominate yourself or an industry colleague to serve on an NPMA committee during the 2018-2019 membership year (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019). Your involvement and leadership will help us chart a successful future for the association and the industry. Please take a moment to view the list of standing NPMA committees and complete an application.
The majority of NPMA committees meet face-to-face three times per year in conjunction with NPMA's Legislative Day in Washington, D.C., NPMA Academy and PestWorld. Committee Conference calls are scheduled as needed but don’t typically exceed once per month.
Please note: Committee appointments are for a 2 year term. We ask that all committee members attend at least two thirds of face-to-face meetings and teleconferences per year. Additionally, the incoming NPMA President makes final appointments of individuals to all NPMA committees.

Q: I have a potential customer with a solid oak living room floor and it appears to have a powderpost beetle infestation. How can I tell if it is active and can I perform a topical treatment or do I have to ask them to strip the flooring? A: It sounds like the floor has an infestation of Lyctid or Anobiid powderpost beetles. Lyctines prefer hardwoods while Anobiids will infest hardwoods or soft woods. The emergence holes look similar and if the frass and hole walls are light colored, that usually means that the wood particles have not oxidized into a darker color and thus would be considered fresh or active. You rarely see the actual insect. Pay careful attention, for if the holes appear to have any cross sections of galleries, that means that the damage was done by an insect prior to milling and then is not a concern. Some states do require determining if the infestation is active if this is a real estate transaction. If there is question or hesitance on the part of the homeowner, you can photo or mark the holes and return later in the season to see if there are new holes. If you do decide to treat, most insecticides must penetrate the wood so the polyurethane must be removed for optimal effectiveness. Do you want to offer health coverage for your employees but can’t afford to? A Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is a perfect alternative! An HRA offers small employers, 50 employee lives or less, an innovative and cost-effective way to provide benefits to employees and their families. Learn more how through the NPMA Exchange. Offering a small employer HRA to employees allows them to use account dollars to pay their individual healthcare premiums and to reimburse any out-of-pocket cost they or their dependents may incur. In 2018 you, as an employer, can contribute up to $5,050 for an individual and $10,250 for a family. For employees to be eligible, they must have completed 90 days of service, be full-time employees over the age of 25, and residents of the U.S. Participating employees must maintain minimum essential health coverage to realize the tax advantage of the HRA, or the funds could be included as taxable income during any lapse in coverage. HRA funding amounts are reported on W-2s, and a Form 1095B is required. For employers with over 50 lives, an HRA benefit is also a viable option and there are no contribution limitations. With an HRA benefit, the employer is not allowed to offer any other type of health coverage such as dental or vision.
