NAR: Home prices are firming

According to the National Association of REALTORS, 100 out of 155 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) had higher median existing single-family home prices in the second quarter of 2010 compared to the second quarter of 2009. There were: 14 with double-digit increases; two unchanged; and 53 metros with price declines. In the first quarter of this year 91 areas had higher prices, while only 26 MSAs experienced annual price gains in second quarter of 2009.

In New York State, the median sales price of existing single‐family homes sold in the second quarter of 2010 increased 11.7 percent from a year ago. However, in the entire Northeast region, the median existing single-family home price declined 3.2 percent to $238,000 in the second quarter from a year earlier.
