Recently, the "National Real Estate Transfer Tax" chain email has resurfaced making false claims that the Obama administration's health care bill contains a 4.0-percent "transfer tax" on all home sales. This time the subject line is "If you own a home, read this please," but it still falsely claims that all home sales will be subject to a 3.8 "sales tax." The truth is that the health care bill included a provision that imposes a new 3.8-percent Medicare tax in 2013 for some high-income households that have a "net investment income." The tax will likely only affect a very small percent of New Yorkers went it goes into effect.
