The 2013 legislative
session officially came to an end on Saturday, June 22. Due to the active
support and involvement of countless REALTORS from across the state, NYSAR
successfully accomplished several of its legislative priorities this year
including the introduction by both the Senate and Assembly of two NYSAR
supported bills. The first will codify the ability of brokers to offer
rebates and incentives to buyers and sellers and tenants and landlords, while
the second defines "teams" under the Real Property Law and requires brokers to
register team names with the Department of State. NYSAR also successfully
defeated legislation that would have increased the statewide transfer tax by
two percent and was able to prevent any increase to the statewide mortgage
recording tax.
Most importantly, NYSAR was able to prevent the
passage of all legislation that would have negatively impacted REALTORS. To
