April 19 special election date set for vacant Assembly seats and Senate seat

On Saturday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo set an April 19 special election date to fill four state legislative seats, which include the districts of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in Manhattan and former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos on Long Island. The two other vacancies are Assembly districts located on the southern end of Staten Island and in southeast Brooklyn. Cuomo endorsed the candidacy of current Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky for the Long Island Senate seat, where he faces Republican candidate Christopher McGrath, an attorney.
