Alberta Farm Implement Act and Alberta Dealership Act

The AMC Board of Directors appointed Calvin Mazurenko, Doug Hilsabeck and Ray Malinowski to act on its behalf. That committee formulated a response to the Alberta government and circulated it to the AMC Regular members for review and input before submitting it. CWEDA and AEM made submissions at that same time. The AMC committee met with representatives of CWEDA to determine if we could agree on any requests for change; we did agree on a number of points.

The Alberta Farmers Advocate office then compiled the submissions and sent them, with unbiased questions on each point, to AMC, AEM and CWEDA requesting further feedback. [note] that AEM originally requested that there be no changes to either Act. AMC e-mailed the questionnaire to all Regular members for feedback, and the committee use that input in the formulation of another response. At that time, AEM requested that the Alberta government abolish both the Farm Implement Act and the Dealership Act.

Since that time, CWEDA has met with AEM and we are awaiting anticipated new requests from AEM. The Premier of Albera has indicated his intention to resign this year, and because of that, we are advised that no changes will be contemplated to either Act until the fall of 2011 (earliest) or into 2012.

We will keep you advised of developments as they unfold.
