Lincoln Electric Company of Canada Earns ISO 50001:2011 Certification

Toronto – The Lincoln Electric Company of Canada has become the fourth Canadian company to achieve ISO 50001:2011 Certification through UL DQS. ISO 50001 procedures enable Lincoln Electric to better control energy consumption, while reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Over the past three years, Lincoln Electric Company of Canada has represented the Canadian manufacturing industry, along with other manufacturers, in webinars and case studies in order to encourage other manufacturers in Canada to participate in energy management.

"In a world of increased environmental responsibilities, energy conservation must be at the forefront for businesses striving to achieve operational excellence," says Joe Doria, President and CEO, Lincoln Electric Company of Canada. "An opportunity that may be overlooked is the energy consumed by manufacturers. With increasing pressures on the 'grid,' we are all forced to look at methods in which we lower our consumption and increase our efficiencies in energy use."

ISO 50001:2011's seeks to incorporate energy management in the usage, procurement and conservation of energy. The standard also employs the "Plan – Do-Check-Act" principles that align well with the DMAIC model currently used in SIX SIGMA process analysis, which Lincoln Electric Company of Canada has incorporated in its operations since 2001. This standard has the potential to "pay for itself" in its implementation, provided there are two key elements in place: employee engagement and management support.

Lincoln Electric Company of Canada attributes its ISO 50001 certification success to excellent teamwork, hard work and initiative from employees. This latest ISO certification compliments the company's previous ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications.
