Mr. Allen Rider, Former President, New Holland North America, CNH —

Agriculture Equipment Manufacturing: Most Innovative Industry of Yesterday and Today, but What of Tomorrow?

Allen Rider has been associated with agriculture and equipment almost his entire life. During the last decade he has worked as a business consultant and served on a variety of corporate boards. Immediately prior, he worked for New Holland for nearly 25 years serving in a variety of management roles in Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales and Marketing before retiring as President, New Holland North America, CNH in January 2004. During the 1970's, he was on the Agricultural Engineering faculty at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Oklahoma State University. Honourable Kevin Chief, Manitoba Minister of Jobs and Economy —

Manitoba’s Record as the Largest Exporter of Agricultural Equipment in Canada

Growing up in Winnipeg’s North End, Kevin Chief quickly learned to spot people who could see potential where others might only see hardship. After attending Strathcona Elementary School, he found that his talent for basketball opened opportunities for further education when he played for the University of Winnipeg as a two-time all-star athlete and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Justice.
Before entering politics Kevin spent a decade working in education as Coordinator of the Innovative Learning Centre at the University of Winnipeg, Director of the Winnipeg Aboriginal Sport Achievement Centre and Community Networker with the River East Transcona School Division. He was appointed Minister of Children and Youth Opportunities in 2012, Minister responsible for the City of Winnipeg in 2013, and currently serves as Jobs and the Economy Minister.

Mr. Peter Miller, Managing Director, KPMG —

Peter Miller is a corporate finance professional experienced in M&A, divestitures, business valuations, fairness opinions and debt and equity private placements. He has directed corporate finance mandates, including advising independent committees of boards of directors, in a broad array of industries, including the grain and agricultural, manufacturing and distribution, food processing, financial services, consumer products and utility sectors. He has advised the Canadian Wheat Board of its business strategy and business valuation matters following the enactment of Bill C-18, and was also concurring partner on the Fairness Opinion provided by KPMG Australia to the ABB Grain Limited board of directors in connection with Viterra Inc.’s acquisition of ABB. He has advised the purchases and sales of private and family-owned ag equipment/implement manufacturing companies, ag equipment dealerships, tier I ag OEM suppliers and crop input companies.

Mr. David Gullacher, President and CEO, PAMI/WESTEST,—

A New Approach to Product Development

Dave Gullacher was born and raised in the small agricultural community of Imperial and got his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan.
Early in his career Dave lead the development of new products and systems in organizations within the farm machinery and railway sectors, as well as in the Alberta oil patch. For the past 28 years, Dave has been with PAMI, first in a business development role and now as CEO.
Dave had a key role in the creation of WESTEST. AMC and four other founding members pooled resources to kick-start this organization, to bring equipment and expertise to industry members that previously were only owned by the very largest of manufacturers. These tools are all aimed at taking the time and guesswork out of product development.

Please be advised that AMC will have a vacancy for the 2nd Vice Chair, 3rd Vice Chair and for an AMC board member on December 3, 2015. In the spirit of getting things ready for our annual convention, the nomination process was overlooked. I apologize for not providing these nomination forms to you in the 35 day time period required by our bylaws. In recognition of this and to help reduce undue anxiety amongst members, we have shortened the nomination closing period to 3 days prior to the AGM.

The nominating committee has nominated Richelle Titemore from S3 Enterprises Inc. to represent you as 2nd Vice Chair (representing Saskatchewan). The role of the 3rd Vice Chair is vacant and required, per our bylaws, to come from Alberta.  Assuming Richelle is approved by regular members to be on the executive, this will open up a position on the board of directors that can be filled by a regular member from any province.  We are seeking leaders who are keen to provide strategic advice and continue moving the association forward.

Should you wish to nominate someone to any of these positions, please be advised that the AMC by-laws – article XV1 state:

1.(c) each additional nomination must be sponsored by two other Regular Members of the association and contain the written consent of the nominees.  Each additional nomination must also clearly indicate whether the nominees being proposed for the office of the 3rd Vice Chairman or for an undesignated position on the Board of Directors.

As such, please email or fax your nomination forms to our office by 5:00 pm on Monday, November 30:

SALEM, OR. – The members of the Pacific Northwest Hardware and Implement Association (PNA) have voted unanimously to merge with the Western Equipment Dealers Association. One hundred percent (100%) of the votes cast at the nine regional meetings held to discuss the merger and returned by mail were in support of the merger. Earlier this summer, the PNA board of directors approved a merger plan and submitted it to the members for a ratification vote.

"This is a huge vote of confidence in the leadership and board of directors of the Pacific Northwest Hardware & Implement Association and Western Equipment Dealers Association stated Farrell Oswald, President of the PNA. "This is an exciting time for our organization, and we are very pleased to see that our members support our growth plan."

Scott Eisenhauer, President of the Western Equipment Dealers Association, is also pleased with the strong show of support from PNA dealer members. "This unanimous support confirms our belief that this merger is of benefit to dealers and the industry as a whole. We look forward to working with dealers in the Pacific Northwest region."

The Western Equipment Dealers Association is governed by seven directors. With the merger, three board members will be added from the Pacific Northwest region. The following individuals were elected to serve on the Western Equipment Dealers Association Board:

Farrell Oswald, Pioneer Equipment, Idaho Falls, Idaho – one-year term
Greg Hamilton, Washington Tractor, Okanogan, Washington – two-year term
Kevin Pawlowski, Farmers Equipment, Lynden, Washington – three-year term

The Merger is effective as of October 1, 2015. ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN— The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has revised its previous adoption of an international standard, ISO 3776-3:2009, Tractors and machinery for agriculture — Seat belts — Part 3: Requirements for assemblies.

The standard, ASABE/ISO 3776-3:2009, Tractors and machinery for agriculture — Seat belts — Part 3: Requirements for assemblies, specifies the requirements for pelvic restraint (seat) belt assemblies intended to be used by the operators of agricultural tractors and self-propelled machinery.

The adoption replaces a previous adoption "with deviation" of the same ISO document. The new action simply resolves the single deviation, a discrepancy in the way in which a reference citation was handled.

The adoption further harmonizes national and international standardization, a goal that facilitates manufacturing, safety advancements and product marketing worldwide.

ASABE members with standards access and those with site-license privileges can access the scope of the standard by electronically in about three weeks. The standard can be purchased for a fee directly from the library or by contacting ASABE headquarters at OrderStandard@asabe.org.

ASABE is recognized worldwide as a standards developing organization for food, agricultural, and biological systems, with more than 250 standards currently in publication. Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute. For information on this or any other ASABE standard, contact Scott Cedarquist at 269-932-7031, cedarq@asabe.org. A current listing of all ASABE standards projects can be found on the ASABE web site at www.asabe.org/projects.

ASABE is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. Further information on the Society can be obtained by contacting ASABE at (269) 429-0300, emailing hq@asabe.org or visiting www.asabe.org/.
