On May 31, the new Manitoba
government led by Premier Brian Pallister released its budget, less than a
month after their win. It is notable that the former NDP government had
been in power for 17 years, meaning the budget was based primarily on the new
government's campaign platform to make Manitoba better. The Manitoba budget and the various documents related to it are available here:http://www.gov.mb.ca/finance/budget16/index.html On June 1, the Saskatchewan government released its budget, indicating a deficit of $434 million in 2016-17 with a plan to "transform" government expenditures and operations. Significantly reduced natural
resources revenues were cited as a key reason why revenues were lower than
anticipated. There were no tax increases announced and the role of
agriculture was indicated as a key contributor to the province’s continued
growth. WINNIPEG, May 31, 2016 /CNW/ -FarmLink Marketing Solutions has added
Neil Townsend as a new Senior Market Analyst. Neil will be joining FarmLink's
research team in June to serve FarmLink's expanding client base. He previously
held the position of Director, Market Research with G3 (CWB) and was
responsible for establishing CWB Market Research.
"Neil is gifted at discerning market trends, and their impact on grain
prices in western Canada," says FarmLink Co-Founder Brenda Tjaden Lepp,
"As we continue to grow as an organization, his addition to our team
allows us to engage further with the industry and create new value for farmers
and their business partners."
Joining FarmLink is a natural fit for Townsend who says his career has been
about working with farmers to try and close the information gap that often
exists. "FarmLink does an exceptional job of methodically analyzing the
markets and translating that into farm-specific action plans," says
Townsend, "their approach matches my own views on dealing with the
uncertainty of agricultural commodity markets."
"Adding Neil to our team is a huge gain for FarmLink and our
clients," says Lawrence Yakielashek FarmLink's General Manager, "His
experience and reputation in the industry speak volumes for the quality and
dedication that he brings to his work."
