Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada

AMC NEWS

AMC President, Leah Olson appeared before the federal standing committee of industry, science and technology in Ottawa on September 21, 2016. Leah presented the unique role of agriculture equipment manufacturers in Canada and provided input tothe Committee’s study of the manufacturing sector, including streamlining SR&ED and enabling opportunities for small to medium-sized enterprises. The committee’s key study areas include: reviewing the causes and consequence of manufacturing job losses, reviewing ways to improve Canada’s manufacturing sector and analyzing the state of industrial innovation across Canada.

INDU FOLLOW UP – Member input requested:

Your input regarding SR&ED and how to make it easier or better for you is vital. AMC would like to provide your views to the committee by October 11 and ask that you provide your insight on:

  • What paper work is difficult and how should it be streamlined?
  • If you are struggling with SR&ED, would you prefer to have central office where you could have a one stop location to access government dollars and find out what is available?
  • Would you prefer to have a separate SR&ED program aimed at businesses with revenues less than $200 million and have a dedicated government advisor help you with the application process?
  • Provide examples of how SR&ED has worked for you, examples where it has not and solutions you think should be considered.

Please provide your feedback to AMC President, Leah Olson at leah@a-m-c.ca

On September 14, AMC Board Chair Geof Gray provided a tour during Canada's Outdoor Farm Show to Lloyd Longfield, member of Parliament for Guelph (and member of two key standing committees to our industry: agriculture; and, industry, science and technology). Working with members and in partnership with Glacier Farm Media and the team at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show, we identified eight members with whom Geof and Lloyd would talk with about innovation. The feedback from Mr. Longfield’s office was that he had not realized how much ‘other’ manufacturing was happening in Ontario or the breadth of our entrepreneurship and innovation. Thank you to our members for taking the time to meet with MP Longfield.
