E&O Conference & Expo Safety Summit Recap

Carol Bates from OSHA and Mary Dozois from Massachusetts Deptartment of Public Safety were asked to address attendees concerning jurisdiction of both agencies in the state of Massachusetts at the Engineering & Operations Conference and Expo last month. Both presenters outlined their respective responsibility for safety in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and outlined the inspection process that they anticipate will be conducted in the coming days. A brief update on the OSHA revised regulations that cover the electric industry (CFR: 1910.269, 1926) was also covered. The regulations have not been updated in the past 25 years. Some of the updates go into effect in July of 2014 and some will take effect in April of 2015. NEPPA is undertaking the task of summarizing these updated regulations and hopes to offer a safety class that covers this topic later this summer/early fall.
