On April 1, 2015 Governor Brown signed an executive order requiring the State Water Board to implement measures in cities and towns to cut the state's overall water usage by 25 percent compared with 2013 levels. This savings amounts to approximately 1.5 million acre-feet of water over the next nine months, or nearly as much as is currently in Lake Oroville.

CLFP conducted its First Annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In on March 17-19, 2015. A delegation of CLFP members representing The Morning Star Packing Company, Musco Family Olive Co., Olam Spices & Vegetable Ingredients, Ingomar Packing Company, Kraft Foods, and Campbell Soup Supply Company met with the California Central Valley Congressional delegation on issues relating to water and food labeling.

It may take months to clear the backlog of export and import containers at U.S. West Coast ports, and a number of shippers are seeking to resolve issues related to port demurrage charges and other fees and costs associated with the past and ongoing congestion The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission is encouraging companies who are challenging port charges to contact their Office of Consumer Affairs and Dispute Resolution, which offers dispute resolution services for cargo shipments.

The California League of Food Processors (CLFP) is party to a proceeding at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to determine the amount of GHG revenues (industry assistance) all energy-intensive trade-exposed (EITE) facilities will receive from the investor-owned utilities Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric from the sale of the free allocations the utilities received at the start of the Cap-and-Trade.

Changes to the Cal/OSHA heat illness prevention regulations for outdoor workers are expected to go into effect on May 1, 2015. Employers should review the changes as the regulations cover a wide range of occupations and exposure levels. All employers with workers covered by the rule are required to have a written heat illness plan.

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) will be hosting Public Listening Sessions regarding the development of Emergency Regulations on Groundwater Basin Boundary Revisions as part of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). According to DWR, these listening sessions are in addition and prior to the required public meetings that will occur once the Draft Regulations are developed. DWR will present information and will be seeking input on basin boundary issues that could create potential difficulties with SGMA implementation. Read more for dates and locations.
