The Department of Water Resources (DWR) conducted the winter's first media-oriented manual snow survey on Dec. 30, and despite the higher-than-average water content for the statewide snowpack, officials said snowfall during the remainder of the winter will largely determine whether California's drought will be entrenched for a fifth year.

The Tomato Processing School is held alternating years at the Food Processing Expo and this year will be held on Tues., Feb 16. This one of its kind school is designed for current employees of tomato processing companies interesting in expanding their knowledge of the entire tomato processing business operation, including line operators, management and supervisory personnel, engineers, sanitarians, research and development personnel, government inspectors and industry suppliers. The school will be taught by tomato processing industry leaders, including those from the Campbell Soup Company, Stanislaus Food Products and UC Davis.

A Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) workshop will be held on Feb. 18 during Food Processing Expo 2016. FSMA was signed into law on Jan. 4, 2011, and according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is ushering in the most sweeping reforms of food safety laws in more than 70 years. FSMA includes new regulations for produce farms and food processing facilities. This workshop will provide an overview of the new FSMA final rules, help food processors navigate these new regulations and learn how to prepare for them.
