Understanding Guardianship:
Independence, Autonomy, and Alternatives

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024
10 a.m. PDT | 11 a.m. MDT | 12 Noon CDT | 1 p.m. EDT

Continuing education units are preapproved by the NACCM, NASW and ASA.

Adult guardianship is often misunderstood as a benign protective device for older adults and adults with disabilities. The issues that lead to guardianship can often be addressed through less restrictive alternatives that ensure adults maintain the dignity of independence and autonomy. This session will explain how guardianship works, potential pitfalls, and practical solutions to common problems.

Participants will learn to:

  • Explain the legal framework for adult guardianship.
  • Recognize situations where guardianship may or may not be appropriate.
  • Identify alternatives to adult guardianship.
  • Implement strategies to protect independence and autonomy for older adults and adults with disabilities.

This free CEU webinar is presented by Right at Home.
