Last month NAFA announced the formation of a Corporate Fleet Advisory Council (CFAC). The CFAC is a way to allow corporate fleet managers to voice their concerns and ensure their needs are met, since many of them are unable to volunteer for NAFA committees or be part of NAFA leadership due to work commitments.

NAFA's Board of Governors recently adopted a 2011 operating budget that included no dues increase and no increase in annual conference registration or exhibit fees. The budget goes into effect January 1, 2011. NAFA Treasurer Bryan Flansburg, CAFM, also announced that NAFA's 2010 financial position will be very strong.

NAFA's Board of Governors met recently in New Orleans to participate in a think-tank strategic planning session focusing on the Association's chapters and partnership efforts. The Board of Governors is comprised of the leaders of each of NAFA's 33 regional chapters, 14 national committees, 12 elected officers and trustees, and invited industry representatives.

Breault celebrated his 50th anniversary with the Association in October and was honored at a combined meeting of the New York and New Jersey chapters on October 7 at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, New Jersey.

Stan Liebowitz, who served two terms as the Chair of the New Jersey Chapter of NAFA during the 1990s, passed away on September 25 at the age of 68. Liebowitz, who was retired from Matsushita Electric Corporation of America (now known as Panasonic Corporation of North America), was thought of fondly by his fellow Chapter members.

The newly upgraded ratings system will now evaluate side pole crash testing and crash prevention-technologies. And, for the first time, it will use female crash test dummies to simulate crash scenarios involving women, not just men.

NHTSA and the EPA will begin the process of developing tougher greenhouse gas and fuel economy standards for passenger cars and trucks built in model years 2017 through 2025. This will build on the success of the first phase of the national program covering cars from model years 2012-2016.

Ford scientists are working to understand the suitability of renewable sources such as algae as potential automotive biofuels. This effort is an integral part of Ford's desire to better understand the use of biomass to produce future biofuels as part of an overall strategy to reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil and address climate change.

UPS announced the purchase of 130 next generation hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) to add to its growing alternative-fuel vehicle (AFV) fleet. Ford’s battery-electric vehicles are expected to offer fleet customers lower cost of operation, because recharging with electricity is generally less expensive than refuelling with petrol.
