According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), drivers of sport-utility vehicles are among the least likely to die in a crash and are far safer than those in small cars. Also from the IIHS, the 2011 Saab 9-5 and 2011-12 Volkswagen CC earned Top Safety Pick ratings.

United Parcel Service (UPS) is testing a pilot fleet of five trucks made from lightweight composite materials. They are about ten percent lighter than the familiar brown truck which is built to UPS specs by multiple makers.

Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy's administration is planning to close two I-84 rest areas in Willington, Connecticut permanently on July 1, as a first step toward the permanent closing by mid-2013 of all seven of the state's noncommercial rest areas on interstate highways.

Mazda's official press release from Japan said their new plant in Salamanca, central Mexico, is aimed at "mainly" serving the Central and South American markets, and so the company will be building the Mazda2 and Mazda3 there instead of at a U.S.-based plant.
