West Virginia's abundant natural gas supply has Governor Earl Ray Tomblin ready to order a cost-benefit analysis of switching at least part of the state's vehicle fleet from gasoline and diesel, according to administration officials and those who have been asked to serve on the resulting task force. Tomblin plans to issue an executive order that also would promote this alternative source among the public.

ROUSH CleanTech has received California Air Resources Board (CARB) approval of its propane autogas fuel system for retrofitting 2010 model year 5.4-liter Ford E-150, E-250, and E-350 cargo vans and wagons. This is the first CARB certification awarded since 2000 for a liquefied petroleum gas retrofit system, and the first CARB certification for any alternative fuel system for retrofit installation on 2010 model year vehicles.

A new anti-idling policy has been adopted by the District of West Kelowna, with a vote of four to three. Announced in June 2012, the new policy will prevent District of West Kelowna staff from idling district-owned vehicles for more than five minutes.

Volvo Cars North America will have to pay $1.5 million in fines as a result of seven late recalls since 2010. That’s according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which on July 3 ordered Volvo to pay the civil penalties to settle claims that the company failed to report safety defects in a timely manner.

According to the July edition of the Shopper Insights Report from AutoTrader.com, forty-one percent of car shoppers recently surveyed say that it is important to purchase a vehicle built in the U.S. by U.S. workers, versus twenty-eight percent who say it is important to purchase a vehicle made by a U.S. automaker.
