According to a new report from the EPA Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the SmartWay Transport Partnership program may lose its value if the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not protect the integrity of its program. Also, the Clean Diesel Fuel Alliance posted its report Corrosion in Systems Storing and Dispensing Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), Hypotheses Investigation on Monday, September 10.

The Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) Conference will be hosted in Montreal on September 27. Once again in August, the performance of fleet vehicles at auction mirrored the overall picture in the wholesale marketplace. Mileage and seasonally adjusted prices for end-of-service midsize fleet cars declined for the fourth consecutive month in August; however, they remained above their year-ago level.

Ford is recalling 7,600 new Escapes to fix coolant leaks that can cause engines to overheat or catch fire. The recall affects 2013 models with 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines. Plugs in the engine may not have been installed properly and can fall out while the motor is running. Coolant can leak and cause engines to overheat.

An efficient and low-cost technique to generate electricity has been developed by researchers at the University of Surrey, U.K. According to the researchers, a by-product obtained during the manufacture of biofuels can be used to power microbial fuel cells. The latest study may help design self-powered tools. The work was presented at the Autumn Conference of Society for General Microbiology.
