The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized pathways for production of renewable fuel from giant reed and napier grass as feedstocks. Also, on July 3, the NTSB formally submitted a recommendation to the FMCSA to consider extending the commercial driver licensure requirement to vehicles with a GWVR below 26,001 pounds.

In early-July, the Oregon State Legislature passed Senate Bill 810, the first-ever legislation passed in the United States to establish a road usage charge system for transportation funding. Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, a strong supporter of the legislation, will sign the bill into law.

Global fleet services provider ARI announced on July 8 that it has acquired the fleet management segment of Fleetlevel+ Services GmbH's business holdings. The transaction is expected to close in August. The new company will be known as ARI Fleet Germany.

It is with deepest sympathy that NAFA learned of the passing of NAFA Member Lynn A. Evans on Tuesday, July 9. Evans was the Fleet Operations Supervisor for the Collier County Government in Florida. Evans also was the current President of the Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA).

A 49-year-old commercial truck driver who was drunk when he crashed into an oncoming car on Oregon's Interstate 205 -- after driving the wrong way for 11 miles -- was sentenced to six months in jail. Kenneth Eugene Burgess, 49, pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless endangerment.
