On Monday July 15, members of NAFA's Ontario Chapter traveled to downtown Toronto where they presented their event cheque at the Hospital for SickKids to the SickKids Foundation. NAFA Ontario donated $14,000 on behalf of NAFA.

Legislation would increase the required insurance minimum for motor carriers from $750,000 to $4,422,000; Members of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee debated the possibility of increasing the 18.4 cents per gallon federal gas tax at a July 13, 2013 congressional hearing; and NAFA writes to FMCSA and NHTSA.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration published on July 12 a fresh version of regulatory guidance regarding driver breaks for meals and "other routine stops," as the previously issued guidance can in effect discourage breaks, FMCSA said, or discourage drivers from recording them in their logs.

Under CAFE standards approved last August, automakers' 2,025 fleets must average 54.5 miles per gallon—which would make them nearly twice as fuel efficient as currently required. Design experts say future models could include lighter materials, more aerodynamic shapes, or more powerful engines.

Upgrading more than 1,000 of Indianapolis’ public safety vehicles to engines run on electricity or cleaner-burning fuels would save $8 million over five years, a new task force report said. Replacing those non-pursuit public safety vehicles with cleaner cars is a key part of Mayor Greg Ballard’s plan to convert the entire city fleet to alternative fuels by 2025.
