The U.S. Court of Appeals upholds Hours of Service Rules; the EPA finalizes 2013 Renewable Fuel Standards; Senators challenge the EPA Renewable Fuels Standard, and the EPA is asked to waive 2014 RFS blending volumes; a report on UST systems biofuels compatibility; and the FMCSA proposes to eliminate significant paperwork burden on CDL drivers.

Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) rose in July, the second straight monthly increase, even in the face of higher supplies. Attribute the gain to strong dealer demand, driven by profitable used vehicle retail opportunities and low new vehicle inventory levels for certain models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had some of its servers hacked in early August, the agency confirmed on August 6. The 10 servers involved are used for reports from automakers about their plans for recalls, as well as for progress reports on continuing and past investigations.

New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced a $19 million truck voucher incentive program to encourage the purchase of battery-electric commercial trucks as well as other energy-efficient transportation, including hybrid and compressed natural gas trucks. The electric truck vouchers are available immediately with vouchers accepted for purchases of eligible vehicles meeting program guidelines.

Range Resources Corporation announced on August 7 that the company's vehicle fleet is now being largely fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG). Range officials were joined for an event attended by public- and private-sector leaders as well as environmental and nonprofit organizations.

Alfred A. Hawley, 92, of Salem, VA, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013. September would have marked his 50th anniversary with NAFA. Alfred was a fleet professional with 3M Corporation. Alfred served in the U.S. Navy and retired from 3M after 33 years of service.

A group of co-workers from Ocean County, NJ, are apparently the holders of one of three winning Powerball tickets splitting a $448 million jackpot. The 16 employees of the Ocean County Vehicle Maintenance Department in Toms River, NJ, took part in a pool for the ticket bought at the Acme supermarket in Little Egg Harbor.
