Sales of new vehicles will continue to inch upwards through 2016, but could ultimately be limited by the diminished purchasing power of the younger "Millennial Generation," according to economists from the National Association of Auto Dealers (NADA). Sales of new cars and light trucks will continue their post-recession climb, reaching an all-time high of 17.46 million vehicles in 2016, said Steven Szakaly, Chief Economist of NADA.

Mazda North American said on August 4 that it is recalling 206,000 SUVs that may have rusted suspension parts — less than two months after the U.S. government opened an investigation. The Japanese automaker said the recall covers about 193,000 2007-2014 CX-9 SUVs in the United States with front suspension ball joints that may corrode from water leaking into the fitting.
