Here's an excerpt from the June 2024 cover story, Building a Brighter Future:
"We all have a purpose in life," he said. "Without purpose in life, there’s no meaning. It’s our duty to do the work but never expect any rewards from it. My message is very simple; philanthropy doesn’t mean millions of dollars. Small actions can make a huge impact and change many, many lives. Don’t focus on the dollars and sense. Focus on what you as an individual can do. We are among the top .5% of the seven billion people on this planet, so it’s our moral responsibility to try and help others who have been left behind."
This past week, AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake and AAHOA Chairman Miraj S. Patel traveled to New York to attend the NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference. Laura Lee participated in a panel, "Value in the Midscale: Matching Product, Price, and Location with Demand," where she engaged in a thoughtful discussion with the fellow panelists. Miraj also participated in a panel, titled, "India: Inbound and Outbound Investment Opportunities with Asia's Growing Powerhouse."
Furthermore, Laura Lee and Miraj, along with AAHOA Treasurer Rahul Patel attended the UJA Federation of New York Hospitality Annual Event during the NYU conference. This year, Geoff Ballotti, President & CEO of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, was recognized for his service and dedication to UJA and its mission.

Industry News
In a recent interview, Loews Hotels' Executive Chairman Jonathan Tisch said pent-up travel has largely leveled off after the a post-pandemic frenzy, but the industry remains very strong, with group travel continuing to be strong, and corporate travel is finally starting to rebound.
(Source: CNBC) The trend of combining business and leisure trips, which gained major traction in the early days of post-pandemic recovery, doesn't appear to be going anywhere, as a recent survey revealed nearly half of all business trips planned for this coming year will be combined with leisure activities.
(Source: Asian Hospitality) Thanks to changing legislation and attitudes, marijuana use is on the rise, and hotels are seeing a dramatic increase in pot-related negative reviews from guests who don't particularly appreciate the strong odor and secondhand smoke, as well as the negative ramifications of turning a room reeking of weed after checkout.

In the Market
Truist Securities reports, “Overall U.S. RevPAR was +1.0% y/y for the week ending 6/1/2024, per STR, below the prior week's result of +3.9% y/y and below the trailing 10-week average of +2.0%. On a holiday Memorial Day week with relatively light business travel (a relatively heavier leisure week), we are not surprised RevPAR growth was up slightly y/y. We would say Memorial Day weekend performance was not a bust but also a reflection that Americans are seeking value vacations (home or abroad), which is contributing to modest RevPAR growth y/y for summer leisure. Upscale RevPAR: +1.3% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +0.5% y/y”.
