  • What Happened: Recently, AAHOA Vice Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel and AAHOA Treasurer Rahul Patel visited Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress to discuss the most pressing issues facing the hospitality industry. While visiting Capitol Hill, they met with nearly 10 members of Congress on both sides of the political aisle, discussing the SBA 7(a) loan program. They also offered members of Congress Back-of-the-House Tours and discussed other issues that remain top-of-mind for hoteliers, such as the labor shortage and tax policy.
  • Why it Matters:  Advocacy is a cornerstone of AAHOA and a vital tool for championing the interests of its membership. Thank you to AAHOA leaders for continuing to build strong relationships in the halls of Congress.

  • POV: "We look forward to collaborating with Bookit N Go as a strategic booking partner," AAHOA Chairman Miraj S. Patel said. "This partnership represents a paradigm shift in how hotel bookings are handled, focusing on putting money back in the pockets of AAHOA Members. This partnership provides a booking engine partner invested in our members' success as we continue to focus on how we can help AAHOA Members save on their bottom lines."

AAHOA Advocacy in Action

  • What Happened: AAHOA is thrilled to announce the launch of a new Advocacy eNewsletter, In Your Corner, designed to keep you informed and engaged with our ongoing efforts to advocate for the hospitality industry.
  • Why it Matters: It is crucial to stay active and engaged in AAHOA. This newsletter will provide the latest updates on our advocacy efforts, opportunities to get involved, and stories of how members are making an impact.
  • Housekeeping Detail: AAHOA Members need to opt in to receive advocacy news from AAHOA. You can do this via MyAAHOA.
  • What Happened: AAHOA applauds the overwhelming and bipartisan support of the U.S. Congress in passing the No Hidden Fees on Extra Expenses for Stays (FEES) Act on Tuesday.
  • Why it Matters: This legislation, a significant win for AAHOA Members, requires short-term lodging providers and related third-party sellers to disclose the total cost of a stay upfront, including all mandatory and resort fees. This transparency will empower AAHOA hotelier members and guests to make more informed decisions and protect their bottom lines.
  • Our Involvement: AAHOA has actively supported H.R. 6543 since Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-40) introduced it last year. AAHOA Members sent over 200 letters to their Congressional representatives and urged them to move this legislation forward.

Truist Securities reports, “Overall U.S. RevPAR was +1.7% y/y for the week ending 6/8/2024, per STR, above the prior week's result of +1.0% y/y but below the trailing 10-week average of +2.8%. RevPAR growth remains modest as demand shifts increasingly to summer leisure travel. The strongest relative growth continues to be in Urban and business-traveler centric hotels (led by Upper Upscale and Upscale). We assume international inbound leisure tailwinds are also helping some of the gateway markets, particularly NYC. Las Vegas was one of the outperforming markets last week at RevPAR +14.5% y/y. Upscale RevPAR: +2.1% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +0.7% y/y”.
