On Wednesday, October 24, AAHOA Treasurer Biran Patel will speak at the Red Roof Regional Meeting in Houston, TX. At the event, Biran will provide updates on the hospitality industry and will share AAHOA's accomplishments over the year in advocacy, education, and networking opportunities.

AAHOA will host two regional meetings next week: one on October 23 in Houston, TX and the other on October 25 in Charlotte, NC – both of which will offer free Human Trafficking Awareness Training sessions. In Houston, we’ll be joined by guest speakers Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Brian Sullivan of THLA, and in Charlotte, Congresswoman Alma Adams, NC Attorney General Josh Stein, and Lynn Minges of NCRLA. On October 23, AAHOA Lifetime Member Sunil (Sunny) Tolani will be presented with the “Nelson Mandela Leadership Award” for Social Services by the International Congress of Non-Resident Indians. The award, extended to outstanding achievers in their respective fields, will be presented in London, UK next week.

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Midscale (+1.5%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Luxury was the weakest at -1.2%. Upper Midscale (-0.4%) also underperformed the industry average. Last week's STR results reflected a difficult y/y comp in Texas and Florida from the 2017 hurricanes and the negative impact from Hurricane Michael. The Washington D.C. City Council is on the verge of approving some of the most strict regulations in the country on homesharing sites like Airbnb, HomeAway, and VRBO.
