SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Economy (+1.8%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Upper Upscale was the weakest at -5.8%. Midscale (-0.5%) and Upper Midscale (-1.4%) performed similarly to the industry average. Last week's STR results were a continuation of the MLK holiday shift (the holiday showed up at the beginning of last week's data making for a very hard comp at the beginning of the week). This was as expected. RevPAR by day results were volatile given the holiday, with Sunday RevPAR of +16.4%, Monday at -14.9%, and a general RevPAR improvement over the course of the rest of the week. We are closely monitoring DC results. While DC had relatively poor RevPAR last week (-10.6%), results were not that different from other top markets.” For more, read the full report.
