Pennsylvania hotelier Jagruti Panwala is the new chairwoman of AAHOA, the world’s largest hotel owners association. Panwala became chair during the association’s 2019 Convention & Trade Show in San Diego last week. She is the first woman to lead AAHOA in its 30-year history. “I am humbled and honored to serve the more than 18,500 hoteliers of AAHOA as Chairwoman,” Panwala said. AAHOA celebrated its 30th Anniversary last week at the 2019 AAHOA Convention &Trade Show in San Diego, CA, and it was spectacular. We experienced high participation across the board in attendance (8,214) and booths (775). We also had over 4,300 attendees at our educational sessions and certification programs. We're already looking forward to next year's event in Orlando April 13-16, 2020. See you there!
  
AAHOA Vice Chairman Biran Patel and Treasurer Vinay Patel will be guest speakers at the HD Expo, which kicks off May 15-17 in Las Vegas, NV. Biran will participate in the HD/ISHP Town Hall: Owners’ Roundtable on May 16, while Vinay will be on the Development 101 panel the same day. AAHOA and Emerald Expositions announced plans to relaunch HX: The Hotel Experience Powered by AAHOA in November of this year. “There is nothing but a very bright future ahead for HX,” AAHOA Interim President & CEO Rachel Humphrey said at the announcement of the partnership during the first day's General Session at the 2019 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show. SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Upper Upscale was the weakest at -10.6%. Upper Midscale (-1.0%) outperformed the industry average; Upscale (-5.5%) underperformed. Last week was another tough holiday comp given Good Friday/Easter/Passover impacting corporate travel for the start of the week. This was as expected. Sunday occupancy was -14.8% and Monday was -7.0%; there was day-by-day sequential improvement through Friday (+3.9%). Group RevPAR felt the impact of the light corporate travel week, down 28.6%.” For more, read the full report.
