As SunTrust Robinson Humphrey wrote, “Luxury (+0.2%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Midscale was the weakest at -2.9%. Upper Midscale (-1.9%) underperformed the industry average. Last week was a relatively clean comp but overall a soft week in terms of headline occupancy (occupancy was negative the entire week). Both Group and Transient were generally soft. MGM Resorts International plans to install automated beverage systems to mix different drinks for guests. The number of machines coming to the Las Vegas resorts is unknown, but it also is not the first time MGM has utilized automated tech. Regardless of number, union representatives claim the machines should be viewed as an assistance to employees, not a replacement. Some employees aren't so sure that's the case.
