Regional Director Sandip Patel and his Ambassadors hosted the Washington, D.C. Area Regional Conference & Trade Show in Norfolk, VA, on Wednesday. Treasurer Vinay Patel and Interim President & CEO Rachel Humphrey delivered the AAHOA update, while the trade show saw spirited activity between members and vendor partners. The Hotel ROI, held in conjunction with the event, attracted nearly 70 engaged attendees who gathered to hear industry professionals expound on the Opportunity Zones created by 2017’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the development opportunities they present for hoteliers in the area.

Ram Villivalam and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, both from the 8th District of Illinois, and Michael Jacobson, president & CEO of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association, were the featured speakers, while Secretary Nishant (Neal) Patel delivered the AAHOA update.

North Carolina Regional Director Akshat Patel, Jay (Trini) Patel, Rashmikant (Haji) Patel, Vimal Hardev, and SREE Hotels President Vinay Patel hosted the Charlotte Charity Golf Tournament last weekend at The Golf Club at Ballantyne. The two-day sold-out tournament raised nearly $100,000 in revenue (a record-breaking amount of dollars raised for this event), and these proceeds will go to support 11 charities, including the USO of NC and Samaritan's Feet. Several local politicians and executives were in attendance at the event, including Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, who spoke at the reception.

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Upper Upscale (+2.2%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Luxury was the weakest at (-0.9%). Upper Midscale (+1.1%) and Midscale (+0.5%) underperformed the industry average. As evidenced by Tuesday-Thursday Upper Upscale RevPAR up approximately +3%, business travel was modestly better than the recent trends; it has ranged from -3.3% (7/13/19) to +0.5% (8/17/19).
