SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Economy (-46.9%) was the relatively strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Luxury was the weakest at -94.2%. Upscale (-84.4%) underperformed the industry average; Upper Midscale (-79.2%) outperformed. Last week's lodging results presented continued sequential deceleration of demand and rate trends. While we may be approaching the trough in terms of y/y RevPAR percentage declines (there is not much further to go), we still anticipate further temporary closures of hotels.”

Reports amid the COVID-19 pandemic have been bleak for the hotel industry, but some reports show there is reason for hope. According to LW Hospitality Advisors' report, short-term performance is fragile, but "so long as the U.S. economic expansion endures, the outlook for lodging fundamentals will remain positive."
Data and analytics firm GlobalData predicts the hotel industry will be one of the first to bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic. Hotels can look to how they managed previous disasters, such as the SARS outbreak and terrorism, to learn how to react in uncertain times. Hotels can also be smart about marketing and travel promotions to get back on their feet.
As more people are staying home and avoiding travel, itchy feet will likely surge once the COVID-19 pandemic comes to a halt. WeTravelForward.com is creating a directory for users to find promotions, use gift cards, and more once they are ready to travel again. The best news is for hoteliers: there is no commission or fee to add your property to the directory.
