Truist Securities reports, “Last week’s RevPAR was up against a +220.7% comparable result in 2021 vs. +239.3% in the prior week. On a 3-year run-rate (vs. 2019), RevPAR was +10.5% vs. +8.0% in the prior week’s 3-year run-rate. Upscale RevPAR: +62.1% y/y and +1.7% over 3 years; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +37.7% y/y and +7.9% over 3 years. On a holiday and spring break week, ADR was especially strong, up 15.4% vs. the comparable 2019 week, a theme we also see for summer vacation travel. Even with 3-year occupancy still down in all chain scales ex-economy, ADR growth was substantial enough to present a very favorable headline RevPAR result. That said, on a “real” inflation adjusted basis, we see that headline ADR up closer to 5% vs. comparable 2019 levels."

During the first three months of 2022, $12.5 billion worth of hotel properties changed hands, which represents the strongest quarter of activitity since 2016 and demonstrates resurgent value in the industry. But, experts caution, strong investment activity doesn't necessarily equate to overall industry health.
In a trend that should concern hoteliers, a chain of hotels in New Mexico are being sued by a guest who has never even visited the state for lacking ADA compliance info on their websites.
Thanks to workers continuing to prefer remote employment opportunities, hotels continue to see bookings from guests who are mixing business with pleasure, with this corner of the market expected to grow exponentially during the coming decade.
