On Monday, July 11, AAHOA announced the promotion of Heather Carnes to EVP, Communications and Chief Strategy Officer, and the hiring of Phelps Hope as its new EVP, Operations and Chief Development Officer.
Following the announcement of Laura Lee Blake being named as AAHOA President & CEO in May 2022, these advancements further underscore the association’s aggressive and ambitious plans for the future, which include identifying and securing key leaders to carry out its strategic plan.
From July 13-15, NABHOOD (National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers) is hosting its 26th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership & Investment Summit & Trade Show. Founded by Dr. Andy Ingraham, NABHOOD helps increase the number of African-Americans developing, managing, operating and owning hotels, and their best resource to help accomplish these goals is the annual international summit.
AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake, Chairman Neal Patel, Vice Chairman Bharat Patel, and Immediate Past Chair Vinay Patel will all be speaking along with Andy Ingraham during the AAHOA Town Hall meeting on Thursday (today), July 14, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Alpesh Jivan has been appointed as the new North Pacific Regional Director. Jivan succeeds Kamalesh (KP) Patel, who previously held the position before being elected as the 2022-2023 AAHOA Secretary.
AAHOA is excited to have Jivan on the Board of Directors, and look forward to seeing what he will accomplish and contribute during his tenure.
As we are approaching the Arkansas Regional Conference & Trade Show on Tuesday, July 26, this year's event is shaping up to be a fantastic opportunity to connect with local hoteliers, vendors, and a variety of political leaders. Truist Securities reports, “Last week’s RevPAR was up against a +107.6% comparable result in 2021 vs. +88.9% in the prior week. On a 3-year run-rate (vs. 2019), RevPAR was -1.1% vs. +23.1% in the prior week’s 3-year run-rate. Upscale RevPAR: +6.8% y/y and -12.4% over 3 years; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +0.0% y/y and -3.4% over 3 years. As we anticipated, last week was a tougher comp following the 7/4 calendar shift. AAHOA has joined with the University of Houston Conrad Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management to create a AAHOA Scholarship. AAHOA will contribute a total of $125,000 to UH over five years, beginning in 2016. The contributions will be matched by the Conrad N.
