AAHOA News

Rain or shine, AAHOA Members showed up and showed out for the 2022 North Texas Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament! It was an incredible day at the Cowboys Golf Club where we welcomed almost 80 players and raised $65,000!

Thank you to our North Texas Regional Director Dhiren Masters, all regional ambassadors who were able to attend, and our sponsors who help make these events as successful as they are!

As summer comes to a close, there is only one charity golf tournament left on the calendar on Friday, September 9 at Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA. The Southeast Charity Golf Tournament is your LAST CHANCE to enjoy a day of competitive golf while connecting with other hoteliers and vendors, and most importantly, raise money for local charities.

Register today before all of the spots fill up - we hope to see you there!

With the recent release of AAHOA’s new ElevateHER Initiative, it’s important to continue to highlight the struggles that women in hospitality have had to face for many years, because unfortunately, change doesn't happen overnight.

It’s no secret that discrimination based on gender is a problem in the hospitality industry. Stereotypes, low job status, lower pay, and disparity in leadership positions are just a few barriers to workplace equity that continue to plague women. As of 2021, women hold just one leadership position in hotel companies for every 10 men despite making up 57% of the workforce.

The good news is that there ARE successful women in hospitality. Hertelier magazine spoke to some of these successful women and discovered remuneration, career advancement, and precarious positions are the three top areas of gender disparity in the hospitality industry. To read what they had to say about navigating these obstacles, read the entire article.

AAHOA has exciting things planned for the near future! We commenced shooting this week with AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake for the upcoming 12 Points of Fair Franchising webcast series. This series will cover each of the 12 Points, with one webcast dedicated to each point; the indidivual webcasts will be released about every two weeks.

We are eager to launch this content, because we know how important this subject matter is to our members right now - as the foremost resource and advocate for America's hotel owners, we have a responsibility to ensure members have the tools and resources necessary to realize a mutually beneficial relationship between franchisors and franchisees.

Stay tuned for the release dates of each webcast - you won't want to miss any of them!

The Employee Retention Credit has been one of the most beneficial tax credits available to hotels that have been financially impacted by COVID-19. Due to various updates and changes to the legislation, there remain many misconceptions about business eligibility, which has resulted in an underutilization of this tax credit.

If you think you don't qualify, it's time to take a second look. You can claim up to $26k per employee.

Truist Securities reports, “Last week’s RevPAR was up against a +74.9% comparable result in 2021 vs. +77.8% in the prior week. On a 3-year run-rate (vs. 2019), RevPAR was +12.2% vs. +10.5% in the prior week’s 3-year run-rate. Upscale RevPAR: +21.3% y/y and +4.4% over 3 years; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +12.6% y/y and +13.3% over 3 years. Overall results were strong last week although aided by a couple easier comps: Delta variant + Tropical Storm Henri (y/y). The good news outside of the easy comps is that ADR continues to lead the charge on RevPAR growth both y/y and vs. 2019. ADR growth is of great benefit given flow to profits over labor-intensive occupancy. Due to the disruption of travel in 2019 from Hurricane Dorian, and assuming for now no 2022 hurricanes, the comps should present as easy vs. 2019 starting next week.”
