Over the weekend, AAHOA Upper Midwest Regional Director Kalpesh Joshi was honored by GSA, one of the leading organizations in the Indian community, receiving the Pride of India Award. Joshi has been working with the Indian community for many years, including during the pandemic. With the help of AAHOA Members across the U.S., they worked with the Indian Consulate to arrange for all stranded Indian students around the country to get flights back to India.
Also, during the pandemic, some groups in the city of Chicago were trying to pass a resolution against India. Joshi worked tirelessly to educate local elected officials, and ultimately, the resolution failed.
Afterward, the Indian news Channel (TV9) interviewed Joshi and one other community leader about the situation.
AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake congratulated Joshi on LinkedIn for making a difference in his community, and for being a voice for the Indian-American community. AAHOA is proud of the ways in which so many members take an active role to improve the industry and create opportunities for others striving to achieve the American Dream.
Congratulations, Kalpesh! An amazing honor and so well deserved.
It's that time of year again!

Last week, the Point 5 webinar was released; it is the 5th installent in the 12 Points Webinar Series. It sheds light on mandated vendors, rebates and kickbacks, and increased costs of products and services, all of which can ultimately raise prices for hotel guests.
AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake and Lifetime Member Vimal Patel share the importance of Point 5 and why Franchisees should be free to buy conforming goods from any vendor, not just those mandated by the Franchisor.
“Many hoteliers want to provide extraordinary guest experiences, but to do so, they need viable profit margins that allow them to invest in the business and deliver the best guest experiences,” AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake said.
“The vendor issues have astronomically become a problem financially, as well as a disservice in the products that brands are forcing and mandating onto the franchisees,” AAHOA Lifetime Member Vimal Patel explained.

According to a recent survey of those planning hotel-based events in the coming year, hoteliers can expect continued business events to continue to lag somewhat behind more traditional social affairs like weddings, receptions, birthdays, and anniversaries.
When looking ahead at the industry's future prospects for growth, it's vital that hoteliers consider evolving guest preferences for robust technology offerings in their plans.
As technology's evolution continues offering more opportunities to automate once-human-led processes, hoteliers are facing a dilemma of short-term cost savings at the expense of a personal connection with guests.
