AAHOA News

AAHOA is proud to announce its 2023 Regional Conference & Trade Show season. This year’s regional schedule includes 24 events from coast to coast, giving AAHOA Members the opportunity to connect with local hoteliers, AAHOA Officers and leaders, industry experts, and elected officials. Each regional event will also include a Trade Show where AAHOA Members can engage with local and national vendors who are ready to earn their business.

You can also watch the recently released 2023 Regional video, where some of the association’s leaders, members, and Industry Partners share why you should make plans to come Cross Country with AAHOA:
  • “Learn from each other and meet with industry-leading partners,” AAHOA Chairman Neal Patel said.
  • “Our Regional Conferences & Trade Shows are created with the hotelier in mind, with the owner-operator in mind, with you in mind,” AAHOA Vice Chairman Bharat Patel said.
  • “AAHOA is about all of us. It’s about the industry and not the individual,” AAHOA Secretary Kamalesh (KP) Patel said.
  • “AAHOA is here to serve America’s hotel owners and put them first,” AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake said.
  • “The Trade Shows give us direct access to hotel owners,” AAHOA Silver Industry Partner Dan Brown said.
  • “It’s a great way to scope out what everyone is doing and just absorb knowledge,” AAHOA Member Dhruv Patel said. “I recommend everyone who is in the hospitality industry to join AAHOA.”
  • “Take away a good network. That’s all you need,” AAHOA Ambassador Helen Zaver said.

AAHOA recently announced that we have already secured a record level of booth sales for the Trade Show at AAHOACON23, April 11-14, 2023, making it the largest in AAHOA history.

The 2019 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show, AAHOA’s previous biggest show to date, which celebrated the association’s 30-year anniversary, totaled 77,500 square feet of exhibit space. This year, with many weeks remaining for industry partners to secure space, AAHOACON23 already sits at 81,900 square feet of sold exhibit space. In addition, as of February 8, AAHOA has nearly doubled the registration total of Lifetime Members compared to AAHOACON22, and the organization is still on pace to exceed 2019 registration totals of more than 8,000 attendees.

Please visit AAHOACON.com to register, and click here if you're interested in securing a remaining booth space or learning about key sponsorship opportunities.

Point 8 of the 12-part webinar series was recently released, and sheds light on the legal dispute process between Franchisees and Franchisors. In this webinar, AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake is joined by Vice Chairman Bharat Patel and Lifetime Member Neil Patel to discuss the importance of an independent and fair process to resolve disputes and the role negotiations play in minimizing litigations.

“I will share with you some good news,” AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake said. “As a part of recent negotiations with the various Franchisors, one Franchisor, in particular, is looking at establishing a new dispute resolution process before the parties are headed to binding arbitration.”

“The key is to remind the Franchisor and remind yourself that we have a financial situation. It’s not a legal issue,” AAHOA Vice Chairman Bharat Patel said. “We don’t immediately have to grab an attorney. Typically, what ends up happening is that I hire an attorney, they hire an attorney, and we’re not resolving the basic issue. It’s best to come across with open eyes and open ears.”

In the Market

Truist Securities reports, “Results were overall sequentially a tad softer than recent weeks although we view Valentine's Day calendar timing as a partial factor. Versus 2022, the holiday shifted from the following week Tuesday to the following week Monday. Versus 2019, the holiday was in the current week on Thursday. Weakness appears to be occupancy-led, not ADR. Versus 2019, we add a Super Bowl timing shift (2/3/19). The Super Bowl took place on the same day in 2022 for STR comparative purposes. Upscale RevPAR: +23.3% y/y and -1.5% versus 2019; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +14.4% y/y and +2.1% versus 2019.
