The New Mexico Environment Department, Environmental Health Bureau is proposing changes to the regulations for public swimming pools, which includes those at apartment communities. Some of the changes are applicable to all facilities, and others may only apply depending on the class of pool. Please review the information to bring yourself up to speed on new requirements on safety, chemicals, and staffing.

NAA is now a partner with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) Pool Safely campaign. The two organizations will work together to promote pool and spa safety across the country by sharing information with and providing educational materials for NAA-affiliated associations and their members.

Leasing professionals are the first people prospective residents meet, and often their only gauge of the property staff. The NALP course is designed to teach these professionals skills to help them become top producers. AANM will offer this course starting September 15. Registration opens June 1.

The Poster Contest is open to all children living in a member community. We have 15 sponsorships and awards available. One winner for each age group and a People’s Choice Winner receives acknowledgement, their winning poster framed and a $250 gift card. This year’s poster theme is "What America Means to Me."

Last year, more than $24,000 was raised at the ACTS and provided to qualified member communities’ residents, employees or dependents of employees enrolled in a college/trade school for the fall 2016 term. Each selected scholarship recipient is awarded a $500 gift card and receives a certificate of acknowledgment.Scholarships are available to all residents and employees and their dependents of an AANM or a SWAHG member property. Applicant must be enrolled in or entering a college/trade school for fall 2016. Applicants must complete all sections of the application. Applications are due by August 1, 2016.

One of the episodes on the old children’s TV program, Schoolhouse Rock, tells us that our nation’s laws are made through the rough-and-tumble legislative process within the U.S. Congress where ideas are posed, debated and if all goes well, a bill emerges that goes to the President.

NAA reports that all of our issues from the Capitol Conference are now moving steadily through the legislative process, but we have reached points where grassroots engagement is once again needed. Over the next 3 – 4 weeks AANM members will receive alerts from NAA asking them to take various actions in regards to our three bills.
