Más de 30,000 ejemplares de mangle en el humedal artificial del Puerto de Altamira

The Port of Altamira committed to the environment held on February 2 World Wetlands Day and continues with the project to create an artificial wetland of approximately 50.72 acres, which have been planted to today's 30,000 copies of different mangrove species (red, black, and white button), seeking to establish a suitable habitat for local and migratory birds that come to the area.

It is important to note that this project is the largest of its kind in the country, since the idea of an artificial wetland, is to serve as a natural area for local and migratory birds, as the protection of mangroves is both at local, national and even international, besides which function to regulate ecological processes essential for life, such as hydrological and carbon cycles. Also, are home to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, such as red, blue crabs, crabs, hermit crabs, shrimp, snails, and even serves as a hiding place for small fish, and that its roots of refuge predators, to have larger sizes.

Wetlands also absorb large amounts of water, thus decreasing their levels when it rains in bulk and serves as a natural barrier and scavenger of pollutants harmful to humans, such as heavy metals.
